The National Family Caregiver Support Program also recognizes the needs of grandparents who are the sole caregivers of grandchildren and those individuals who are affected by intellectual or developmental disabilities.
A grandparent must be 55 years or older and the primary caregiver of a child (18 or younger). Supplemental services are available in limited supply to aid grandparents with school related expenses, and after-school programs.
An assessment will be completed with the grandparent to help determine eligibility for services. Proof of residency for the child is also required to show their primary residence. This can be documentation from schools, medical offices or the state, showing the child's name and address.
