The Santee-Lynches Regional Council of Governments (SLRCOG) is designated as the Regional Transit Management Agency (RTMA) for Clarendon, Kershaw, Lee, and Sumter Counties. As the RTMA, we provide short-range planning, management services, projects and technical assistance for improving transportation coordination among Santee Wateree Regional Transportation Authority [public transit provider], human service organizations and private providers. This work is done in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Transportation – Division of Mass Transit and the Transit Planning Department.

The RTMA also facilitates the Regional Transit Council. This council is designed to advocate transit initiatives. The membership of the council is comprised of public and private providers; State, County, and local human service agencies; faith-based and community organizations; and businesses and individuals. This Council meets the second Thursday of each month from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Moreover, accessible transportation alternatives are also linked toward enhancing transit initiatives. Transportation alternatives such as walking, bicycling, commuter shuttles, volunteer transportation, and safe routes to school complement transit. Advocating accessible transportation alternatives is another means to ensure quality of life issues for individuals within the Santee-Lynches Region.

The bottom line objective is to seek out innovative ways to bridge transportation gaps that provide individuals with the “freedom of mobility that is safe, affordable, dependable and accessible.”
