Santee-Lynches coordinates development and regular updates to the region's risk-based approach to reducing risks from natural hazards through mitigation planning. Santee-Lynches works with FEMA, the South Carolina Emergency Management Department, and local readiness and response agencies to develop and maintain a Hazard Mitigation Plan, which identifies needs and prioritized projects by category across the four-county region. A multi-jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan is required as a condition for receiving certain types of non-emergency disaster assistance, including funding for mitigation projects.
