COG Donates items in Support of Region

COG provides supplies to local schools and non-profits to help remain safe during pandemic

SUMTER, SC –

After having a successful Back to School Bash in July, the COG was left with some leftover supplies. In an effort to not waste these materials the Council of Governments has steadily been donating to

Santee Lynches COG donated many supplies to the Road of Independence program for their Back in School Bash. Roads of Independence is a program that the COG donated paper and sanitizers to after their program director Ms. Keisha White reached out. The COG was also able to provide school supplies to local area elementary schools. On October 12 and October 15 COG staff visited the schools of East Clarendon in Turbeville, St. Paul Elementary in Summerton, and Pocalla Springs Elementary in Sumter to hand deliver.

On a separate occasion, the COG donated sanitizers to Mechanicsville United Methodist Church. They also donated to the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office in an effort to help with Clarendon County Cancer Overcomers gift bags effort. This program helped patients in preparing to live healthily outside of treatment. Along with the packs of paper, the COG provided left over hand sanitizers received from personal protective equipment (PPE) granted from pandemic relief for students. Speaking on the donations, Linda Jackson, Chief of Administration at Santee Lynches Regional Council of Government. said, “We were able to deliver items to continue face to face learning with continued support from Walmart, 5 Below, and Prisma Health Tuomey. I would say this was a great success. Hopefully we can maintain this sponsorship.”

In total the organization provided 120 packs of lined school paper, 30 backpacks and three boxes of hand sanitizers totaling 72 bottles.
