SUMTER, SC – Santee-Lynches Regional Council of Governments recently contracted with the Town of Paxville to be very deliberate about their future.  Mayor Wade McLeod and the Town Council have been in routine communications with the COG about ways to develop the town.  After multiple conversations with Dennis Cyphers, Chief of Government Services, the town, and the COG have signed a Technical Assistance Agreement.  Over the course of six (6) months the COG will assist the town with the development of a 10-year comprehensive plan and the revision of the zoning ordinances to include providing a digital zoning map. Cyphers stated, “We are very excited to work with the Town of Paxville to help them move towards the vision they have for their municipality.  We continuously strive to be a tide that raises all ships.  A win for Paxville is a win for our region”.

A comprehensive plan is important because it serves as a roadmap for the future growth and development of the community. Jeff Parkey, Regional Planning Director stated, “With a comp plan, Paxville is in a better position to achieve the goals of the community”.  The zoning ordinances are complimentary to the comprehensive plan and are very necessary because they are the guidelines for implementing the community’s vision. Mayor McLeod stated, “This should have been done a long time ago and I am confident this is going to give us focus as we identify community goals.  We will be reaching out into our community to tap into their collective creativity to develop a plan for a progressive Paxville that is attractive to residents and businesses alike.  I am very proud of my council as they work very hard to keep Paxville growing and safe.  I also want to say thank you to the COG staff.  We are very appreciative of their support.”
